Most of my life, I have been told that Christians are boring and have too many rules. Our atheist friends would love to tell us that we never have fun. I beg to differ. It's a matter of opinion.
Do Christians really have more fun? More fun than who? The little boy next door playing in his sand box or the little girl playing with her Barbie doll?
Let's compare apples with apples. Is the average adult Christian having more fun than his neighbor who doesn't believe in a heavenly Father and a savior?
Is the Christian teenager having less fun than his friends who are having premarital sex and getting AIDS? Is the teenager that abstains from sex having less fun than the teenage girl who gets pregnant at 15?
Let me ask you this. What fun are we really missing? Are we missing getting drunk at a party and throwing up? Are we missing driving home drunk after a night in a bar and risking being stopped by the police and losing our driver's license? Or better yet, do we miss having a car accident and maiming or killing an innocent child?
What are Christians really giving up? If you go by the 10 Commandments, we are giving up the things that cause unhappiness in the lives of most people. We are giving up adultery, murder, lying, stealing, cheating and disrespecting our parents. We also give up using our creator's name in vain and having idols. Another thing we give up is working 7 days a week because we set aside a day of worship. Since the God of Abraham designed us, he must know that we need to rest every 7th day for our health sake.
If we don't commit adultery, our spouses aren't caused undue heartache and grief. We can keep the vows we made on our wedding day and not cause undue suffering for our children caused by divorce.
If we respect our parents, we don't cause them unhappiness. If we don't lie, then we won't forget the truth. If we don't steal, then our neighbors can trust us and we spare ourselves imprisonment.
There is one more benefit of being a Christian and believing in a savior. It's called eternity. Where do you want to spend your eternity? There are only two choices, heaven or hell.
I don't think anything can replace the joy I feel when I am in the presence of my creator. There is no artificial high created by man than can give you the high you feel when your heavenly Father holds you in is arms.
So let me ask you again, do Christians have more fun? Are we having fun yet? I think so.
