The palm trees on my blog remind me of places I have lived. California, New Orleans, Gulfport and Biloxi Mississippi.
Watching the news brought back memories of hurricanes I had gone through in the 25 years I lived in the south. I was in California for 2 years when Camille hit in 1969, so I didn't see that damage except on TV. There's a boat that washed ashore that they turned into a souvenir store to remind you of Camille and there are some foundations of houses that were never rebuilt on Hwy. 90.
Elaina with 125 mile an hour winds did no damage to my house in Biloxi. We had some trees limbs that came down in the neighborhood and some metal sheds that flew around but nothing like what I'm seeing on TV with Katrina.
A friend of mine predicted that a hurricane would come through and destroy the casinos on the Gulf Coast. His dad owns a beautiful home right on Hwy 90 and I'm wondering if it is still standing.
I have family and friends on the coast but I haven't heard from anyone yet. Power may not be restored for weeks. Please, pray for the people in the path of the hurricane as they try to get their lives back together.
Last week, we had a flood in my town in Kansas and I felt sorry for the people in an apartment building who had lost furniture and cars. That was nothing compared to what the people on the coast are going through. At least, everything around them here in Kansas was in tack and they could go shopping and go to dry land close by. The people on the coast are looking at ruined homes and businesses. They may not have jobs to go to.
